Accomplishments
Dr. Guy M. McKhann has 25 years of experience at Columbia University Irving Medical Center/New York-Presbyterian Hospital, combining clinical skill and compassionate care to maximize patient outcomes. He works with multidisciplinary teams to treat patients with a variety of brain conditions, including brain tumors, epilepsy, and adult hydrocephalus. His areas of particular technical expertise include brain mapping for brain tumors and epilepsy; minimally invasive, computer guided microneurosurgery; stereotactic laser ablation; Gamma Knife radiosurgery; brain stimulation; neuroendoscopy; and cerebrospinal fluid shunting.
Dr. McKhann also works as a translational neuroscientist, directing the Epilepsy Neurophysiology Laboratory and collaborating with many other laboratories studying human neurophysiology and brain tumor related epilepsy. His basic and clinical research has been funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH), the American Association of Neurological Surgeons, the Klingenstein Foundation, the Charles A. Dana Foundation, the New York Academy of Medicine, Parents Against Childhood Epilepsy, the Irving Center for Clinical Research, and the Tuberous Sclerosis Alliance. His ongoing adult hydrocephalus research, working together with Dr. Andrew Teich, is currently funded by the NIH.
